The Green Mark certification scheme was introduced in Singapore, in January 2005. At its core, it’s a green building rating system created to assess a building’s performance and environmental impact. This is part of Singapore’s URA Master Plan, the statutory land use plan which guides the country’s development in the medium term over the next few decades.
New public sector buildings are obliged to obtain Green Mark certification, including Green Mark Platinum for new buildings with air-conditioned areas exceeding 5,000 sqm, as part of the public sector’s commitment to lead in environmental sustainability.
